How to Prepare for Your Photo Session
At Lia Photography, one of London’s best-rated professional photo studio,
We want to make sure you're fully prepared for your shoot.
Whether you're coming in for a headshot, portrait, boudoir, or corporate session,
The following tips will help you get the most out of your time in front of the camera.
General Preparation Tips for All Sessions
• Plan Your Outfits:
Bring 2–4 clothing options. Stick to solid, neutral colors for a timeless look. Avoid busy prints and large logos unless previously discussed.
• Stay Well-Rested:
Get a good night’s sleep the night before to help you look and feel refreshed.
• Hydrate & Moisturize:
Healthy, well-hydrated skin always photographs better. Apply a light moisturizer before the shoot.
• Hair & Nails:
Come with neatly styled hair and clean, well-groomed nails. Neutral nail polish or bare nails work best.
• Avoid Last-Minute Changes:
Avoid new hairstyles or drastic grooming changes right before your session.
Headshot Photography Preparation
• Wardrobe:
Choose classic business attire or smart casual options. Simple shirts, blouses, and blazers work best.
• Makeup:
Keep makeup natural, clean, and polished to highlight your features without overpowering them.
• Accessories:
Avoid bold jewelry. Keep it minimal so the focus stays on your face.
Portrait Photography Preparation
• Style & Outfits:
Bring clothing that reflects your personality. Flowing dresses, smart casual looks, or formalwear can all work depending on your vision.
• Colours:
Stick to earthy tones and soft, muted colors. These flatter most skin tones and photograph beautifully.
• Props (Optional):
Personal items such as books, hats, flowers, or musical instruments can add meaning and character to your portraits.
Boudoir Photography Preparation
• Outfits:
Bring lingerie, robes, bodysuits, or pieces that make you feel confident and beautiful. Choose tones that flatter your skin — black, white, or bold colors are all great.
• Grooming:
Consider a manicure and any personal grooming preferences (e.g., waxing/shaving) at least 24 hours before.
• Confidence Prep:
Practice poses in front of a mirror if you’d like — but don’t worry, we’ll guide you every step of the way.
• Outfit Variety:
Bring a range of looks: casual, fashion-forward, editorial, and formal. Your portfolio should show your range.
• Expressions & Poses:
Practice different facial expressions and body poses to show versatility. We'll also guide you during the shoot.
• Accessories:
Bring versatile shoes (heels and casual) and minimal accessories unless your shoot is style-specific.
Modeling Portfolio Photography Preparation

• Hair & Makeup:
Keep it clean, tidy, and professional. Avoid last-minute grooming changes.
• Time Management:
Arrive on time and be ready to shoot at the scheduled hour — it helps everything run smoothly.
